Jak vyrobit (téměř) cokoliv

Week 3

Weekly tasks

  1. Scan an object using photogrammetry or a 3D scanner.
  2. Model (it is not enough to download an existing design) an object with a maximum size of 5 cm, which would be difficult to produce using the subtractive method, and prepare a project with printing parameters in Prusa Slic3r or Bambu Studio.

3D scanning

This week we learned how to work with 3D scanner and potential use of photogrammetry. When choosing an object to scan, I was guided by the old saying that says: When life gives you lemons, just 3D scan them - and so I did.

First Scan Attempt

The first attempts were not encouraging so to say. The individual scans did not connect and the leaf was missing completely.

Improved Scan

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty disappointed. However, after calibrating the scanner and applying chalk spray on the lemon, things drastically changed (for the better). I was left with a nearly perfect scan of my lemon.

Final Scan

Final scan result with improved calibration and surface preparation.

3D printing

I was extraordinarily excited for this part. 3D printing is quite common now but I have never worked with it and I find it fascinating. Unfortunately, my ideas were harshly limited by limitation of parameters to be max. 5 cm. But I accepted it as a challange to make something usefull, small and quickly printed. Bottle opener as a keychain came to my mind. No more opening beer bottles with doors, other bottles or the like. With this revolutionary invention, you can open your drink anywhere (except for lectures from "Jak vyrobit téměř cokoliv" of course)
